Graphite Material Weight & Volume Calculator

Instant online weight estimation tool for graphite blocks, round rods, rings and tubes. It calculates nominal material volume, unit weight and batch material weight from the dimensions and density you enter.

Dimension and result-weight units switch between metric and imperial. Density remains in g/cm³ in both modes.
Default is 0%. Enter an additional percentage only when you want a separate stock-planning allowance for budgeting. Blank dimensions and machining allowance are confirmed from the drawing.
Calculation Summary
Single Unit Volume: 0.50 L
Unit Net Weight: 0.93 kg
Finished Batch Weight: 0.93 kg
Planned Stock Weight: 0.93 kg
Stock Factor Applied: 0%
Density Applied: 1.85 g/cm³

The optional stock factor changes only the planning weight. Required blank dimensions and machining allowance are determined from the finished drawing and processing route.

Graphite Bulk Density Presets

Select a density preset for material-weight calculation or enter the density stated on the grade, TDS or CoA. Purchasing and shipping calculations should use the order material density.

Graphite Category & Grade Bulk Density (g/cm³) Density (lbs/in³) Grain Structure Industrial Applications
QDZRT Graphite Isostatic Graphite — High-Density Isostatic 1.90 g/cm³ 0.0686 lbs/in³ Fine-grain isostatic structure 1.90 g/cm³ density preset for high-density isostatic graphite weight calculations.
QDZRT Graphite Isostatic Graphite — General Isostatic 1.80 g/cm³ 0.0650 lbs/in³ Fine-grain isostatic structure 1.80 g/cm³ density preset for general isostatic graphite weight calculations.
QDZRT Graphite Molded Graphite — General Molded 1.75 g/cm³ 0.0632 lbs/in³ Fine / medium grain molded structure 1.75 g/cm³ density preset for molded graphite weight calculations.
QDZRT Graphite Extruded Graphite — General Extruded 1.68 g/cm³ 0.0607 lbs/in³ Extruded graphite structure 1.68 g/cm³ density preset for extruded graphite weight calculations.
Flexible Graphite Sheet / Foil Flexible Graphite 1.00 g/cm³ 0.0361 lbs/in³ Expanded natural graphite 1.00 g/cm³ density preset for flexible graphite weight calculations. Density remains editable for project specifications.

Geometric Volume & Net Weight Formulas

All calculations utilize physical bulk density ρ (in g/cm³). The fundamental relationship is W = V × ρ. Below are the geometric breakdowns:

Rectangular Block / Plate

Volume: V = L × W × H
Weight (kg):
L(mm) × W(mm) × H(mm) 1,000,000 × ρ
Used For: EDM blocks, thermal barriers, sintering trays, plates.

Solid Round Rod / Cylinder

Volume: V = π × (D2)2 × L
Weight (kg):
π × (D(mm)2)2 × L(mm) 1,000,000 × ρ
Used For: Solid graphite rods, casting dies, degassing shafts, electrodes.

Hollow Tube / Ring / Sleeve

Volume: V = π × [(OD2)2 - (ID2)2] × H
Weight (kg):
π × [(OD2)2 - (ID2)2] × H 1,000,000 × ρ
Used For: Crucible liners, furnace tubes, mechanical seal rings, sleeves.

Procurement Weight & International Freight Estimation

When planning international sea container or air courier shipments for graphite materials, factor in packaging tare weight and volumetric billing formulas.

Air Freight (Volumetric vs Actual Weight)

Carriers compare actual gross weight with tariff-defined volumetric (dimensional) weight and charge according to the carrier billing rule.
Each courier or air-freight service uses its own volumetric divisor. Use the divisor stated in the selected freight service before calculating chargeable weight.

Export Packaging Weight

Packaging is selected according to part size, fragility, shipment mode and destination requirements, using protective cartons, pallets or wooden/plywood cases.
Gross shipping weight equals product weight plus the actual selected packaging weight.

Frequently Asked Questions on Graphite Weight & Dimensions

Why can actual measured weight differ from the calculated value?

The calculator uses nominal geometry and the density you enter. Actual billet and flexible-graphite density differs across grade, batch, porosity, dimensional tolerance and machining allowance. For purchasing or shipping weight, use the batch/grade density and final drawing dimensions.

How should I factor in CNC machining allowance for raw graphite blocks?

Machining allowance is set from the forming route, billet condition, part size, flatness, surface condition and final tolerance. Send the finished drawing so the required blank size can be calculated.

Can pre-cut graphite blanks be supplied according to my exact calculated weight?

Yes. We supply graphite blocks, rods and ring blanks with pre-cutting or CNC machining to the BOM/drawing. The quotation states the cutting method, allowance and tolerance for the selected material and size.

What density should I use for the graphite weight calculation?

Use the density stated for the selected grade or production batch when it is available. For early planning, a material-family density can be used as an estimate, then replaced by the agreed TDS/CoA value for purchasing or shipment calculations.

Does the calculated graphite weight include packaging or shipping weight?

No. The calculator returns graphite net material weight. Gross shipping weight also includes the actual carton, pallet, protective material or wooden/plywood case selected for the shipment.
